Dear Parents/Guardians:
The purpose of this letter is to introduce myself as one of your child's teachers. I also want to extend an invitation, share my philosophy of education, and establish open lines of communication.
Introduction: This is my 19th year teaching full-time in the Mitchell School District. I can assure you that I've lost absolutely none of my enthusiasm for the job. In fact, it seems to get better and better. I earned a Bachelor's Degree at the University of Michigan and a Master's Degree at the University of South Dakota. Although I have a lifetime certificate from the State of South Dakota, I continue to complete coursework ,and I enjoy learning. I have a double major,Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance and Language Arts/Speech. As a certified athletic trainer, I am an avid Wellness/Sports fan. Hobbies include reading, writing and theater. This year I will be teaching one sections of 7th grade Language Arts and two sections of 8th grade Language Arts.
Invitation: The most important purpose in writing this letter is to invite you to join me as partners in teaching your son or daughter. Research shows that when parents/ guardians and teachers work together, the result is a better education. I look forward to meeting you and working with you. Please feel free to e-mail anytime you have a question or comment. My e-mail address is [email protected] Please remember to put on your calendar October 5th. On that day, conferences for the first quarter are scheduled from 3:45-9:00. Anything you wish to share with me about your child would be appreciated. If you wish you may write me a note or e-mail me at the above address.
Philosophy of education: I believe strongly that schools and teachers exist for two equally important reasons. The first is to help our students increase in knowledge--to give them the tools and skills they'll need to function well in a changing world. The second is to help students develop good character and become good citizens. In addition to upholding high academic standards, I'll be doing all I can to help my students develop good attitudes, be respectful, work hard, and be honest. In my opinion, these are the four main ingredients of good character.
Here's hoping for a great year. Please feel free to contact me at any time.
Sincerely,
Lee Ann Overbay
